The Chargers had a visitor last weekend.

Eric Winston met with the team, a source confirmed Monday night. The former Chiefs tackle was released last week and projects as a potential replacement to Jeromey Clary on the right side.

Free agency doesn't start until Tuesday at 1 p.m., but because of Winston's release, he does not qualify as an unrestricted free agent and is allowed to begin visiting and negotiating with teams before free agency begins.

The weekend visit confirms what was already known, which is that aside from center Nick Hardwick, nothing is set in stone on the Chargers' starting O-line.

Clary, a 2006 sixth-round draft choice with 78 starts, is under contract and could remain with the team. Or, with him carrying a $5.7 million cap number entering the third season of a four-year deal, the team could choose to go in a different direction.
