"Running back Ricky Williams has told Ravens officials that he is retiring, according to sources. But the team is leaving the door open for the 34-year-old to return in 2012 should he change his mind, which is a possibility.

Williams, who was entering the final year of a two-year deal, rushed for 444 yards and two touchdowns on 108 carries in 2011. He went over the 10,000-yard rushing mark for his career in the final game of the regular season. Williams also had a great relationship serving as a mentor to Pro Bowl running back Ray Rice.

Last month, Williams told The Baltimore Sun that he planned on playing out his contract with the Ravens."
