Rick Spielman: It's all good with Vikings quarterbacks

"There was a lot of speculation that the Vikings were shopping quarterback Tarvaris Jackson before ultimately deciding to keep him on the 53-man roster Saturday.

Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman declined to clear up the situation when asked Tuesday whether the Vikings had any talks about trading Jackson.

"I'll keep everything in-house," said Spielman, speaking in Minneapolis at the Vikings' kickoff luncheon with the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. "It's all internal. But I feel very good that we have the three quarterbacks that we have on our roster. Feel that it's the strongest (group) we've had since we've been here."

Jackson could have been the odd man out after the Vikings brought in two quarterbacks this offseason. But the Vikings opted to keep Jackson and Sage Rosenfels on the roster as backups to Brett Favre. In the process, they released second-year pro John David Booty, later adding him to the practice squad.

Jackson said Monday he had no idea whether he was going to be part of the 53-man roster or whether he was going to be traded or released. Jackson said he's taking things one day at a time moving forward and remains confident in his abilities to be a starter in the NFL.

Spielman also dismissed speculation that he wasn't completely on board with the decision to sign Brett Favre, as reported by profootballtalk.com the day after Favre signed. Spielman had a relationship with Rosenfels when they were together with the Miami Dolphins organization, and he played a key role in trading for Rosenfels in February.

"I'm 100 percent behind the organization's decision" to sign Favre, said Spielman, adding that he's "very excited" to have him. "I was part of the process and all on board because he's such a unique individual and (it's) a unique situation." "
