Rick Nash took his turn at the Nationwide Arena podium yesterday, speaking publicly for the first time since general manager Scott Howson told the hockey world on Monday that the Blue Jackets captain had asked to be traded.

But Nash did nothing to quell a firestorm that has turned the NHL spotlight on the league's last-place club. If anything, he made the reasoning for the eventual parting of ways between player and club more confusing.

"I was informed by management (in January) that there was a (planned) rebuild, a reshape, of the team, and I personally felt I could be a huge part of that, toward bringing assets in," Nash said. "I think that was … in my view, what was the best thing for me, the organization and, personally, for my career."
