Remarkable reports have emerged today suggesting that Robin van Persie may have handed in a transfer request at Manchester United.

Van Persie returned for today’s game against Newcastle after a groin injury and is apparently unsettled under new boss David Moyes.

And pundit Mark Lawrenson has claimed he has heard rumours that Van Persie has asked to leave the club, as reported by the Mirror.

Lawrenson told Irish radio station Today FM: “There’s all sorts of rumours going round at the training ground at the moment.

“One or two of the press boys that I know cover Manchester United, they’re even saying that the big whisper is Van Persie might have asked for a transfer on Tuesday.

“So if that happens, what a mess that’s going to be for David Moyes.”

David Moyes job as Manchester United doesn’t appear to be getting any easier, following the home 1-0 reverse to his former club Everton this week.
