"In a surprising offseason development, the Tigers reportedly have made their top prospect, right-handed starter Jacob Turner, available in trade talks as they now appear to seek a top-gun starting pitcher for their 2012 rotation.
Buster Olney reported Saturday for ESPN.com the Tigers have made it known to several clubs Turner is attainable in a deal for an established starter, which has included discussions about Cubs right-hander Matt Garza.
The trade conversations represent a change in strategies for the Tigers.
Dave Dombrowski, the Tigers president and general manager, had maintained well into December the Tigers were interested only in adding a low-key starter as insurance for a rotation spot vacated when Brad Penny's contract expired at the end of the 2011 season."
