The Spurs were among a handful of teams to express interest in combo guard Monta Ellis in the early hours of free agency, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

Ellis, 27, was also reportedly contacted by Chicago, Phoenix, Denver and New York. Dallas and Atlanta were also mentioned as possible destinations before the free agent period began at midnight Eastern on Sunday.

The eight-year pro opted out of the final year of a contract that would have paid him $11 million this season. He averaged 19.2 points and 6.0 assists for a Milwaukee team that was bounced out of the first round by Miami.
