"It looks like Rip Hamilton will find a landing spot soon.
The Chicago Tribune is reporting the Bulls are going to make a move to sign Hamilton before the season begins later this month, according to unnamed sources.
Hamilton will be waived as part of a buyout that will rid the Pistons of the one of the heroes of the 2004 NBA championship - but had grown into a giant headache to the organization.
The Pistons retain the use of the new collective bargain agreement's amnesty clause which allows teams to waive a player, but still be responsible for his salary – it just wouldn't count against the salary cap.
"It's just a verbal agreement right now, so nothing is official right now," Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said at the start of training camp Friday. "We have come to a verbal agreement, though. Once it's official, I can get more detailed about why a buyout instead of amnesty. There's a reason."
A main reason is cost. The terms of the buyout weren't revealed, but the Tribune reports the Bulls will offer a two-year deal worth around $10 million so Hamilton can recoup what he lost by accepting the buyout. Hamilton was owed roughly $20 million over the next two seasons by the Pistons so if you do the math that would make the buyout around $10 million. There is also speculation that Hamilton could be headed to Boston. "
