"The Giants are one of three teams to have contacted the Arizona Cardinals about a possible trade for disgruntled quarterback Matt Leinart, according to a report from ESPN.
Leinart, 27, a former first round NFL draft pick and Heisman Trophy winner at USC, has declared no interest in being a backup in the NFL.
If he were to start, it would not seem to be with the Cardinals as Derek Anderson, who was released in the offseason by the Browns, has been designated to top the depth chart in the pre-season finale.
Buffalo and Oakland have also been in touch with Arizona.
Leinart's base salary is for more than $10 million the next two seasons. He started the first 11 games of his rookie season in 2006, but only six since. It was widely assumed that he would take Kurt Warner's spot after Warner retired in the offseason."
