The Nationals have acquired catcher Jose Lobaton and two players to be named from the Rays in exchange for right-hander Nate Karns, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Topkin adds that the two players yet to be named are likely minor-leaguers.

The switch-hitting Lobaton, age 29, is coming off a 2013 season for the Rays in which he batted .249/.320/.394 (100 OPS+) with seven homers in 311 plate appearances and 713 2/3 defensive innings behind the plate. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 84 across parts of four major-league seasons. He'll make $900,000 this season and serve as backup to starter Wilson Ramos.
