Joe Montana's oldest son Nate, who auditioned for the 49ers earlier this month, will take part in their rookie minicamp May10-12 as an unsigned free agent, the Sacramento Bee first reported Sunday.
Montana was not selected in the NFL's seven-round draft that completed Saturday. He took part in the 49ers' workout for local prospects April 17, having attended De La Salle High School in Concord.
"I love the Bay Area. It's a great, great place," the younger Montana said after that workout. "Coming back to where my dad played, you just have to put your head down and try to make your own name."
Joe Montana launched his Pro Football Hall of Fame career in 1979 as a third-round draft pick by the 49ers. He won four Super Bowls before being traded in 1993 to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played his final two seasons.
