Former Texas defensive coordinator Manny Diaz took over in the same role at Louisiana Tech last month. But Diaz might actually end up coaching in the SEC this season.

According to NOLA.com, Diaz is one of three candidates under consideration for the special teams coaching job at LSU. His competition includes former LSU assistant coaches Mike Haywood and Bradley Dale Peveto.

If Diaz is hired, he will replace Thomas McGaughey, who left LSU to become special coordinator with the New York Jets.

Diaz served as defensive coordinator at Texas from 2011-2013. He was fired after the Longhorns allowed the most rushing yards in school history in a loss to BYU. Before arriving at Texas, Diaz was a defensive coordinator at Mississippi State and Middle Tennessee State
