Arizona Cardinals reach deal with quarterback Derek Anderson

"The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to terms with free-agent quarterback Derek Anderson, and a deal will be announced in the next few hours.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt is expected to meet the media at the team's training facility to discuss Anderson's role with the team. Anderson is expected to speak via conference call.

ESPN.com reports that the deal is for two years, $7.25 million., which includes $3.25 million guaranteed, and with incentives, would max out at $18.25 million.

Anderson, recently released by the Browns, is being brought in as the No. 2 quarterback but likely will be given every chance to compete for the starting job with Matt Leinart.

The Cardinals had also been targeting restricted free agent Charlie Whitehurst of the Chargers, but would have possibly had to wait a week had they signed him to an offer sheet. The Chargers then could have matched the offer, leaving Arizona still searching for a quarterback.

Anderson, who turns 27 in June, went to the Pro Bowl following a breakout season in 2007 when he passed for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns for Cleveland. "
