"Laveranues Coles, released by the Bengals yesterday, said he plans to contact the Jets to see if they want him to return.

"They'll be the first team we call to see if they're interested," Coles said, according to NJ.com.

The Jets wanted to re-sign Coles last offseason but the Bengals' lucrative offer of $10 million guaranteed was too good for him to pass up or the Jets to match.

However, Coles had a disappointing season in Cincinnati and said he never meshed with quarterback Carson Palmer.

"I didn't fit into the offense at all," Coles told writer Dave Hutchinson."
