"As the final days of the 2011 season dwindle away, the Eagles remain focused on their game Sunday against the Redskins and not on the possibility of dramatic change this off-season.
"All that stuff is really out of our control," defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said. "Our coaches are our coaches, and right now, the only thing that's on our mind is getting ready for the Redskins and trying to finish strong and get to 8-8. Any time we spend worrying about stuff that's out of our control is going to take away from our focus on the Redskins."
Reid declined to comment on Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo, a Jim Johnson disciple who spent 1999 through 2006 here with Reid and Johnson, coaching both linebackers and the secondary. A published report in a San Diego newspaper had Spagnuola rejoining the Eagles if, as expected, he's fired by the Rams.
"I've asked my players and coaches to focus only on the Redskins, and I'm going to do the same thing," Reid said. "We still have one game left, and as long as we have a game left, I'm just not going to go there. All our energy is on preparing for the Redskins."
Reid has been asked numerous times over the last few weeks about the future of defensive coordinator Juan Castillo, and although he's been very complimentary of the first-year coordinator -- "You guys know how I feel about Juan," -- he's never come out and said Castillo will be back in 2012, if Reid himself is back for a 14th season as head coach.
If the Eagles replace Castillo, his successor would become their fourth defensive coordinator in five years. The Eagles could bring in Spagnuolo in a different role -- senior defensive assistant or assistant head coach -- and let Castillo keep his title, in much the same way Marty Mornhinweg was a senior assistant (2003) and assistant head coach (2004-2005) working alongside offensive coordinator Brad Childress before replacing him when Childress got the Vikings coaching job in 2006.
The Eagles had a similar arrangement last year with long-time NFL head coach and defensive coordinator Dick Juaron serving as a so-called "senior assistant" working alongside Sean McDermott, Castillo's predecessor."
