Rehabbing Mets ace Johan Santana is 'fine' but tired arm will get rest

" Johan Santana will not throw again until next week, and the Mets' ace remains unsure of whether he will pitch this season.

After making one minor-league rehab start on July 28, Santana was diagnosed with fatigue in his surgically repaired left shoulder. The 32-year-old southpaw, whose $137.5 million contract runs through 2013 with an option for 2014, is continuing to work out while following doctors' advice to refrain from throwing until "hopefully" Monday or Tuesday.

"Right now, I'm fine," Santana said yesterday. "After that game that I pitched, I felt good. The day after I pitched in that game, I long-tossed, and two days later, I threw a bullpen and it was fine. But then, I talked to the doctors and they said it was too much, too soon."

When Santana resumes throwing, it will be side sessions, meaning he will have to build back up to the point where he would be able to make another rehab start.

"Hence, the week to two-week delay in that original timetable," GM Sandy Alderson said."
