"The long wait for football immortality continues for Andre Reed.
The Buffalo Bills' all-time great wide receiver was again passed over for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday. He has been among the 15 modern-era finalists every year since 2007.
Reed, 48, was looking to become the 10th member of the Bills organization to receive induction.
The modern-era players elected to the Class of 2012 were center Dermontti Dawson, defensive end Chris Doleman, defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy and running back Curtis Martin and tackle Willie Roaf. Seniors candidate Jack Butler of the Pittsburgh Steelers also was elected. Butler, a defensive back, attended St. Bonaventure.
The inductees were chosen during a seven-hour meeting of the 44 members of the Hall's board of selectors. Reed had been a finalist more times than any of the other men considered today.
He starred for the Bills from 1985 through 1999. He ended his career third in NFL history in catches and fourth in receiving yards. He currently stands 10th in catches and 12th in yards.
Five members of the Bills' great Super Bowl teams have gotten in the Hall: quarterback Jim Kelly, running back Thurman Thomas, defensive end Bruce Smith, receiver James Lofton and coach Marv Levy."
