Red Wings run home win streak to 19, one short of NHL record

"Riding the tremendous goaltending of Joey MacDonald, the Red Wings beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in a shootout Friday for their 19th consecutive victory at home, tying them with the 1970-71 Bruins for the third longest streak in NHL history.

Todd Bertuzzi scored the winning goal with one of his lullaby-slow goals in the shootout, taking Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller to Bertuzzi's left on the forehand, before sweeping back to the right and lifting a back-hand shot into the net.

But the big performance of the night was MacDonald's. The journeyman goalie kept the Wings in the game, even though they were outshot 27-18 over the last 48 minutes of regulation.

Much of the game was played with the Ducks set up in the Red Wings end and MacDonald making stop after stop. Several saves were outstanding, including two stops in the shootout against snipers Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan.

Early in the third period MacDonald beat Ryan with a lunging glove save, as Ryan broke in alone from the blue line.

"It's two huge points for us," MacDonald said. "It felt great.

"I was in it all night," he said. "They were throwing shots from everywhere, and we battled hard, too.

"It was a 1-1 game, and we were hitting goal posts. It was just one of those games when you know it's going to be a tight, tight game."

The Wings hit at least three posts. Their only goal in regulation eventually was awarded to Justin Abdelkader, who deflected a low, rising bullet from the blue line by Jakub Kindl, who was originally awarded the goal.

Drew Miller also assisted.

The only goal MacDonald allowed in regulation went to George Parros, the Ducks strongman who had not scored in 83 games dating to Dec. 1, 2010.

In 399 games Parros has 17 goals and 909 penalty minutes."
