Red Wings get blanked for 4th time in 15 games

"The Red Wings were left to look ahead to Wednesday's rematch as a chance to catch up to division rival Chicago after falling short Sunday.

The Blackhawks dominated offensively and stifled defensively, leaving the Wings to suffer their fourth shutout of the season, 3-0, at United Center. It was Detroit's second loss in as many days, and left them eight points behind Chicago.

"I thought we had a few good flurries around their net, but I thought they battled hard and competed hard and did a good job," Wings coach Mike Babcock said.

Duncan Keith scored from just inside the blue line in the first period, and Brian Campbell and Dustin Byfuglien followed up with goals in the last four minutes of the second period, with Campbell's goal going in off Osgood's body. Byfuglien's goal at 19:27 sat especially badly.

"It just dropped," Osgood said. "It's a goal that obviously stings, with 32 seconds left. I would have liked to have it either way. It's just a bad break when theylike that.

"I thought we played pretty good, considering. We played pretty solid defensively, we killed penalties real well. They've got a real good team. I thought if it wasn't for that third one, we might have given ourselves a better chance in the third."

The Wings didn't get a shot on goal the first 13 minutes, weren't able to convert on either power play, and had a season-low 20 shots total on Cristobal Huet.

"He was very solid, very solid," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "Looked like he was challenging and took away a lot of their options and their space, and rebound control was there as well. Looked like he was in charge. … We like the way we played, in all areas, all aspects of our game."

Missing seven regulars, the Wings looked tentative at first, got skating better as the game wore on, but were outshot every period."
