Powering their way to the finish line the Red Sox belted three homers and routed the Baltimore Orioles 12-3 Friday night moving a step closer to clinching the best record in the American League.

Even before the Sox' victory was complete the club clinched home field in the Division Series when the Detroit Tigers lost to the Miami Marlins.

The Sox got three-run homers from Daniel Nava -- just his second since the All-Star break -- and David Ortiz and a solo shot from Jonny Gomes.

The homer for Ortiz was his 30th of the season giving him his 7th 30-homer 100-RBI season tying him with Ted Williams in franchise history.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia appeared to have a three-run homer himself but upon video review it was ruled a run-scoring double. It was the 40th of the season for Saltalamacchia most in a single season by a Red Sox catcher.
