"James Shields was named the American League Player of the Week today after throwing a pair of complete game victories last week.
Shields beat the White Sox 2-1 on April 19 and the Blue Jays 2-0 on Sunday in Toronto. He allowed four hits in both games and struck out a combined 16 batters.
Sunday was Shields' first shutout since May 9, 2008 when he blanked the Angels at the Trop.
Shields joined Rolando Arrojo (1998) and Albie Lopez (2000) as the only pitchers in team history to toss complete-game victories in back-to-back starts.
Sunday was the seventh complete game and third complete-game shutout of his career"
