"Sunday's game with the New York Yankees was rained out just before 11 a.m., meaning the Tampa Bay Rays got an earlier start on their train ride to Boston and, once again, another shuffle to the pitching rotation.
RHP James Shields, Sunday's scheduled starter, now will pitch Tuesday afternoon at Fenway Park in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. RHP Wade Davis, who was scheduled to start Tuesday afternoon, has been pushed back to Friday when the Rays open a homestand against the Mariners.
RHP Jeff Niemann will pitch Tuesday's night game. LHP David Price is still set for Wednesday afternoon.
"We don't want to skip (Shields and Price), and Niemann has been kind of the hot hand lately, so it just makes sense to go that way," Rays manager Joe Maddon said."
