"The Texas Rangers have persevered without Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz this season, but going at least two to three weeks with Adrian Beltre sidelined might be the biggest hurdle to date.

Beltre, the team's RBI leader and standout defensive third baseman, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 1 strained left hamstring on Saturday.

Beltre was injured running into third base in the fifth inning on Friday, saying he felt "a really hard grab."

"You don't replace that," manager Ron Washington said. "You try and do the best you can. We're not going to make any excuses, but we'll miss him. We'll miss him a lot."

The Rangers recalled Chris Davis from Triple A Round Rock, and inserted him at third base for Saturday's game.

Michael Young will split time with Davis at third base, although Washington won't have a set schedule on which one plays.

While Young played third last year and Davis has spent most of his time recently there, neither is at the Gold Glove-caliber level of Beltre.

"It's going to be tough for sure," shortstop Elvis Andrus said. "Adrian's range really helped me and the entire defense out. He's one of the best defensive third basemen in the big leagues. But we've got to move on, and Chris is going to be fine there."

Before the injury, Beltre was one of nine players in the majors to appear in every game his team played. That included 93 starts at third base in the Rangers' 100 games through Friday.

This is only the fifth stint on the disabled list for Beltre in his 13-year career, the last coming Aug. 9-31, 2009."
