"The Rangers might have a former Cy Young Award winner pitching for them in 2011, after all.
Right-hander Brandon Webb , who hasn't pitched since April 2009 because of shoulder problems, was scheduled to talk on the phone with manager Ron Washington and pitching coach Mike Maddux on Tuesday afternoon, according to sources.
Neither Washington nor Maddux were available for comment Tuesday. General manager Jon Daniels also declined to talk about Webb, instead saying that the club has talked to a lot of people.
Webb wants a one-year deal with a low base but many incentives. But in the past with high-risk players, the Rangers have favored deals with an option for a second season. Jonathan Maurer, Webb's agent, has told teams Webb only wants a one-year deal.
Webb won the National League Cy Young Award in 2006 for Arizona and won 70 games from 2005 through 2008. But Webb, 31, hasn't pitched since opening day of the 2009 season. Rangers team doctor Keith Meister performed shoulder surgery on Webb in 2009 on a muscle near the shoulder blade."
