"Bob Simpson, who along with Ray Davis is the co-lead investor and co-chairman of the Rangers ownership group, said Friday might that he agrees with general manager Jon Daniels' assertion that signing free agent first baseman Prince Fielder is unlikely.

Simpson didn't completely rule out the possibility, but said Fielder's asking price and the Rangers' estimated $125 million 2012 payroll makes a deal highly unlikely.

"I think he's, given our set of cards, too pricey," Simpson said. "And if that were to change, I guess they would look at that harder. But right now I think he's priced himself out of what we could do.""
