The Rangers will not make a hasty decision on right-hander Colby Lewis, manager Ron Washington said.

Lewis is trying to become the first major league pitcher to return from hip-resurfacing surgery. Because so little data is available regarding this surgery for athletes, the Rangers are being cautious with Lewis.

“If you judge by what he did against Seattle, he’s ready,” said Washington, referring to Lewis’ five scoreless innings against the Mariners on Wednesday. “But this guy just came off hip surgery. We want to make sure there is no issue, because once he goes into our rotation, we want every start we can get.”
