Randy Moss meets with media

"There was a media tsunami here in Music City on Wednesday.

Forget the CMA Awards hullabaloo. The real buzz was Randy Moss Meets the Press day.

ESPN was here. So were USA Today, CBS Sports, FanHouse and The New York Times. Even the Huntsville Times sent a columnist at a time when Alabama is consumed with Cam-Gate.

More than a half-hour before practice was to start, there were some 25 media types at the field. Players started drifting out of the locker room and preparing for the noon stretch. Moss was nowhere to be seen.

Then an imposter emerged, wearing a No. 84 jersey with "MOSS'' on the back. He kept his helmet on, head down and quickly walked by.

No way. It turned out to be rookie safety Robert Johnson, who at 6-foot-2 and 206 pounds was a poor imitation of the sleek, 6-foot-4 receiver.

Minutes later the real Randy Moss emerged, oblivious to reporters. He had two bright red receivers gloves Velcroed to his facemask.

So that's what a Hall of Fame receiver looks like? We have never seen one wearing a Titans jersey. Pardon our small-market ignorance.

At 12:30 Moss made his first catch, running a short route in a drill with rookie quarterback Rusty Smith delivering the goods.

Moss later played a little pitch and catch with tight end Bo Scaife. One of Scaife's tosses was a high fastball. Moss' right hand flicked out like a frog's tongue catching a fly. Effortless. Impressive.

Moss reminds me of a sleek greyhound. He is all legs and arms — with huge hands. He doesn't run. He glides. Players trying to stay with him lose ground, even in his 13th season."
