"As if Sunday's 31-13 loss to Philadelphia wasn't tough enough for coach Steve Spagnuolo and the Rams, along came Monday's injury report.
"I've been whacked with all kinds of news today," Spagnuolo said. "So I'm dusting off and getting ready to go forward."
A voluminous report included good news on Sam Bradford and Jason Smith, so-so news on Steven Jackson and Danny Amendola and surprisingly bad news on Ron Bartell.
After concern about the possibility of nerve damage after Bradford's throwing hand was slammed into by the hand of a Philadelphia pass rusher, there was a sigh of relief at Rams Park when it was learned that Bradford merely has a bruised right index finger. The Rams quarterback had good range of motion Monday, and with a little rest and treatment could be good to go next Monday night against the New York Giants.
"That will be a day-to-day deal," Spagnuolo said. "We'll see where we're at on Wednesday. We'll keep our fingers crossed, no pun intended."
Smith does not have a high ankle sprain as originally feared. So instead of being out for what could have been a few weeks, the right tackle is day-to-day for the Giants.
As for Jackson, an MRI exam Monday showed that the Pro Bowl running back has a strained quadriceps muscle in his right leg and probably will miss the Giants game. "Then it probably will become a week-to-week thing," Spagnuolo said. "I've always trusted Steve with injuries and how he feels. He knows better than anybody how his body reacts."
Amendola, meanwhile, has a dislocated left elbow. He has no fracture or break, and as of Monday afternoon head athletic trainer Reggie Scott didn't think surgery would be needed. Even if that's the case, Amendola could be sidelined for several weeks; for now, Spagnuolo ruled out the wide receiver only for the Giants game."
