Alexei Ramirez was thrilled to receive his first American League player of the week honor and immediately credited his teammates batting behind him in the White Sox's batting order.

"It's been great because having somebody like Adam Dunn, (Carlos) Quentin, (Paul) Konerko and (Alex) Rios hit behind me has given me more pitches to hit," said Ramirez, who moved from the eighth spot to the second spot on April 23 and was honored by the league for batting .417 (10-for-24) with six doubles, one home run and nine RBIs from May 16-22.

Although Ramirez has a tendency to be a free swinger, he said he has learned to become more selective with runners in scoring position. Ramirez has 17 walks, 10 fewer than he drew all of last season.
