The big surprise as the Raiders began their 19th and final practice of training camp Wednesday was the sight of quarterback Terrelle Pryor wearing No. 2.
Pryor who wore No. 2 in college has been wearing No. 6 since joining the Raiders two seasons ago. Following his first training camp practice in August of 2011 Pryor said he requested No. 2 but Hue Jackson gave him No. 6.
"Coach won't let me wear No. 2. Why? I don't know" Pryor said. "You tell me. I'm just going off what coach tells me."
Presumably Jackson was sparing Pryor comparisons with JaMarcus Russell the Raiders monumental draft bust with the No. 1 overall pick in 2007 but lasted only three seasons.
Marquette King was given No. 2 last season and wore it through the preseason before going on injured reserve. King came back this offseason wearing No. 7.
The only Raiders to wear No. 2 in a regular season game were Russell quarterback Aaron Brooks in 2006 and punter Leo Araguz.
As practice was getting underway rookie second-round pick Menelik Watson was suited up and with the team. Watson who injured a calf before training camp began didn't take the field for the first time until Aug. 7. That day he aggravated the calf injury and has been out until Wednesday.
