"Suspended point guard Rafer Alston remained away from the team Sunday, when he was the only player on the roster to not attend the Heat's Family Festival.
The Heat suspended Alston indefinitely without pay just after midnight Sunday when he failed to show up for Saturday's home victory against Atlanta. Alston also skipped Friday morning's practice, and the team claims he has been unresponsive, with the exception of a text message, to attempts to communicate with him in three days.
Team officials said Sunday afternoon that there was no change in Alston's status and declined further comment until the matter is resolved.
Alston had been mired in a shooting slump since he was signed Jan. 7, and was replaced as the starter by Carlos Arroyo before Thursday's victory against the Los Angeles Lakers. Alston did not play in that game and was also benched for the final three quarters of Tuesday's game against Golden State for poor play."
