Velma Jackson shooting guard Quinndary Weatherspoon has committed to Mississippi State.

The 6-foot-5, 170 pound prospect chose the Bulldogs over offers from Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee and Wake Forest.

A Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen selection as a junior, Weatherspoon led the Falcons to their second-straight 3A title, averaging 16.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

MSU was among the first programs to offer the shooting guard in April and the opportunity to play a vital role in a program going through the rebuilding process was a major factor in his commitment.

"That's where I feel the most comfortable at," he said. "I'll be close to home and can make a big impact on a rebuilding team. I'm just ready to become a Bulldog."

Weatherspoon has seen the momentum of his recruitment pick up since he began playing on the Nike EYBL circuit last spring. Hawaii is the most recent program to extend an offer, but the guard said he and his family felt Mississippi State was the best fit for his future.
