"Browns quarterback Brady Quinn might not need surgery for the left foot injury he suffered on a bootleg run late in a Dec. 20 game at Kansas City.
But the news about Quinn from Browns president Mike Holmgren today was not all good.
Holmgren said Quinn may have a Lisfranc injury, which involves ligaments in the mid-foot and could include a fracture and/or dislocation in that area.
''I just talked with our training staff today,'' Holmgren said on a conference call. ''I don't believe he's going to need surgery. He needs some time, clearly. As far as the specifics of the injury, we can talk about that a little bit tomorrow, but I don't believe he's going to have to have surgery.''
Asked specifically if it was a Lisfranc, Holmgren said, ''That's the first thought, yeah.''"
