Questions looming for Jets

"Now what?

The Jets' season ended in dramatic fashion yesterday with a 19-17 loss to the Dolphins. Now, the Jets have to figure out who goes and who stays in 2012.

The first question is whether offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer returns for a seventh season. Schottenheimer has taken the brunt of the criticism for the offense's struggles this season.

But he has two years and $3.12 million left on his contract after receiving an extension last offseason. ESPN reported yesterday the Jets would shake up their offensive staff, and might bring in Norv Turner or Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator.

"That's interesting that there's those reports out there," Jets coach Rex Ryan said after the game. "Somebody's throwing darts or something like that.

"There's only three people that make decisions for this organization. That person that reported it is guessing or something like that. I don't know what to tell you."

The next question mark is quarterback Mark Sanchez. He did little to silence his doubters yesterday, throwing three more interceptions.

He finished the year with 26 touchdowns, 18 interceptions and ran for another six touchdowns. His completion percentage was 56.7 percent.

If Peyton Manning becomes available, expect plenty of talk about the Jets pursuing him. But Ryan backed his quarterback yesterday."
