"Carlos Quentin was inserted into the White Sox lineup Wednesday only after Andruw Jones suffered a stiff neck.
So Thursday's day off will serve as a period of mental rest for the Sox slugger, who is an 0-for-8 rut and saw his average drop to .180.
"He's the type of person who takes a lot of things seriously," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "This game could chew him up in a heartbeat. I talked to him last week. He's trying too hard to help this ballclub. I wish he could relax a little bit and take good at-bats."
It appeared Quentin was showing signs of breaking out of his season-long slump after he collected three hits Sunday, but he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Tuesday and wasn't in Wednesday's lineup until Jones' ailment."
