Below in italics is the release from the Predators on their signing Mikko Vainonen to an entry-level contract. He is the second player from Nashville’s class of 2012 to be signed in the last two days — Brendan Leipsic being the other Thursday.

At 6-foot-2, 222 pounds, Vainonen brings NHL-level size at the age of 19. The Predators see him as a stay-at-home type of presence with some mobility.

Here is what Nashville general manager David Poile said about Vainonen at the draft last year: “The big factor was the size and the skating. He’s a very smooth skater.”

Currently Nashville’s 2012 class is looking pretty solid with Filip Forsberg, Leipsic, Vainonen and Colton Sissons all signed.

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed 2012 fourth-round draft pick Mikko Vainonen (MEE-koh vigh-NOH-nehn) to a three-year entry-level contract.
