"Running back Clinton Portis is still listed atop the team's most recent depth chart, and Ryan Torain, activated last Saturday from the practice squad, is listed as Portis's backup.

The Redskins didn't rely on the running game much in the second half, but Torain saw more action in the final two quarters against the Rams, and Coach Mike Shanahan said the game plan called for Torain to play on first and second downs. Shanahan said Monday this was in part due to an injured right hand that was bothering Portis.

The depth chart released to the media each week is not necessarily the one the coaching staff relies upon. For example, the chart released Monday night has Torain listed behind Portis and ahead of Keiland Williams, but there are other a couple of other head-scratchers."
