Plenty of reasons to bring back Cam Cameron

"So now Ravens Nation waits with bated breath to see if Cam Cameron stays or gets the ax, this being the hot topic now that Chuck Pagano has flown the coop to be the head coach for the Indianapolis Colts.

What a crazy week it's been for Cameron.

Word from inside the Castle on Monday was that Cam was telling people he was a goner, that he was more or less a Dead Coach Walking down in Mobile, Ala., where he was helping John Harbaugh evaluate talent at the Senior Bowl.

Now we hear he's been calling his assistant coaches and giving them their marching orders for the coming weeks, which doesn't exactly sound like a guy about to clear out his office.

Personally, I don't understand why Cameron is even on the hot seat this off-season.

Sure, there's a certain segment of the fan base that's been howling for his scalp for years. And the media, including yours truly, has criticized his offense on occasion for being too staid and unimaginative.

But to trot out Ray Lewis' favorite phrase, let's look at the bottom line.

Why would you fire the offensive coordinator after your team went 12-4 in the regular season and came within a dropped pass and a hooked 32-yard field goal of going to the Super Bowl?

Maybe I'm old-fashioned. But isn't that considered a really, really good season anymore?

Wouldn't most NFL teams kill to have a season like that?

So why send the offensive coordinator packing when it's over? If it was any other job and you had a year like that, they'd be throwing bonus money at you and planning a big party. They sure wouldn't be showing you the door."
