"Brandon Jacobs is "super happy" that his close friend, Plaxico Burress, will be released from prison on Monday. But he's not super happy at all about where Burress thinks he's going to play next year.
Jacobs, who was Burress' best friend on the Giants, said Thursday night, "There is no chance Plaxico Burress is a New York Giant after he comes home. None."
Burress, according to Jacobs, has his sights set on signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"Plax is a Virginia guy, (Eagles quarterback Michael) Vick is a Virginia guy. They sort of went through the same things," Jacobs said. "They've got a lot of dynamic players there. It wouldn't be a bad thing, he thinks, to go down there if you want to win. He wants to go down there, he wants to have a chance to win the Super Bowl right away."
Burress also "wants a new start," according to Jacobs, who said he spoke to his former teammate once a week while he was locked up at the Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome, N.Y. for the last 20 months. Burress, 33, was sentenced to two years there on a weapons charge stemming from the infamous incident where he shot himself at The Latin Quarter in Manhattan in November 2008.
The Giants released Burress a few months after that incident, but they have never publicly ruled out re-signing him upon his release from prison. Several team sources have maintained all along that a reunion is unlikely, especially since they have a stable of young, talented receivers and Tom Coughlin was never Burress' biggest fan."
