It looks like three teams going for one playoff spot. So what are the Detroit Pistons' chances of getting it?

The ultimate answer very well could determine employment fates and, to some degree, roster makeup moving forward.

The Pistons are working on four consecutive non-playoff seasons and appear to be competing with the Charlotte Bobcats and New York Knicks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the NBA's Eastern Conference.

Chicago, despite purging salary in the aftermath of another major injury to superstar Derrick Rose, hasn't backed up -- yet. The Bulls are 4 1/2 games ahead of the Pistons with 34 games to play and firming their grip on a playoff spot by the day.

Brooklyn's anticipated surge finally happened, with the Nets winning 10 of their last 14 games and solidifying the seventh spot, at least for now.

That leaves Charlotte (22-28), Detroit (19-28) and New York (19-29), separated by two games. The Knicks have drawn three games clear of 11th-place Boston, which is where the playoff contenders' line seems to be drawn.
