The Detroit Pistons confirmed today that Jeff Bower has been hired as the team's next general manager.

Bower's hiring first was reported Monday.

An introductory press conference has been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday here.

The 53-year-old former New Orleans Hornets general manager worked last season as head coach at Marist College, his only season at the Poughkeepsie, N.Y., school.

He becomes the No. 2 personnel man to Pistons president of basketball operations and head coach Stan Van Gundy.

"I'm excited to join the Pistons organization and play a role in helping this franchise build on its great basketball tradition," Bower said, via a team statement. "I look forward to working with Stan, his staff and everyone in the Pistons organization to put together a team that the community can support and be proud of. I'm also excited about ownership's commitment to winning and their demonstrated commitment to the community."

Bower was identified as a candidate early in the search process and fit Van Gundy's wish to hire someone with general manager experience.
