Pistons' Ben Gordon turns sour on new rules

"Pistons guard Ben Gordon is no longer a fan of the new rules that punish players for being too demonstrative. He got caught up in defending teammate Greg Monroe in the Pistons victory over the Washington Wizards in Toledo on Tuesday and was kicked out for getting two quick technical fouls.

His transgression?

Gordon was arguing with his hands in the air.

"It was the first time I got kicked out of a game without using profanity or being demonstrative," Gordon said. "It was kind of confusing for me."

NBA officials have been instructed to give technicals to players who raise their hands in protest or smack their own arms to demonstrate they've been fouled, even if speaking in a civil manner. A number of players have protested the new rules, including Boston Celtics backup center Jermaine O'Neal, who said he was T'd up simply for saying to an official,"I can't talk to you?"

Teammate Kevin Garnett also was whistled for two technicals for being demonstrative.

"I understand the constant bickering and the constant nagging of refs," Gordon said. "I understand but players are trying to talk to refs calmly and respectfully? I don't think a guy should be fined for that. It should be more clear cut for what a guy gets techs for.""
