Pre-season projections don’t mean a whole lot. Well unless one of your favorite players are projected to have a solid rookie season. As most of you are aware, Kyle McPherson has been a friend of the site/podcast for several years now. When we stopped over at FanGraphs today, we noticed something rather cool. Kyle McPherson is projected for quite a rookie season.
So projections mean everything and matter more than anything in baseball.
2012 Line: 48.2 IP, 8.5 K/9, 0.9 BB/9, 0.9 HR/9, 3.14 FIP at Double-A
2013 Steamer: 126.0 IP, 6.2 K/9, 2.6 BB/9, 1.0 HR/9, 1.6 WAR
Only one rookie pitcher is projected to rank ahead of McFear. Damn, this would be pretty cool. Maybe the Fastball Academy McPherson went through in the low minors paid off after all.
Go check it out McPherson’s player page with the Steamer projection linked here. The FanGraphs ranking of the top prospects article is posted here.
To us, the Pirates right hander has always been generous with his time. We cut and pasted Part One of our interview from 2009 with McPherson for you below. See, we can love McFear too. Here goes our awful writing.
