It wasn’t a blockbuster deal to suddenly catapult the Coyotes back into a playoff spot, but there’s still time for that.

Instead, the Coyotes quietly swapped prospects with the Edmonton Oilers Friday, receiving forward Tobias Rieder in exchange for forward Kale Kessy.

The NHL trade deadline expires Wednesday at noon Arizona time.

Rieder, a fourth-round pick of the Oilers in 2011, scored 27 goals and racked up 56 points in 52 games with the Kitchener Rangers this season in the Ontario Hockey League.

Last season, the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder had 42 goals and 84 points in 60 games before leading the OHL with 13 goals and 27 points in 16 playoff games.
