"The Reds' 12-11 win over the San Francisco Giants in 12 innings was obviously dramatic. The Reds will find out in the next day or two if it was costly.
Brandon Phillips was hit on the right wrist by a 95 mph fastball from Santiago Casilla in the fifth inning. Phillips stayed in the game to run the bases but he left before the bottom of the inning.
"We don't know," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "They took some X-rays."
Phillips will be X-rayed again when swelling subsides.
He told a reporter he is concerned.
Phillips is a key component for the Reds. He is hitting .290 with 16 home runs and 50 RBI. He's tied for the team lead with 90 runs scored.
He has also played sensationally at second base.
The Reds also are concerned about Laynce Nix's sprained ankle. He pinch-hit Wednesday and hit a chopper to second base, but barely made an effort to run to first.
"We were hoping he'd get a base hit or walk," Baker said. "Whenever you can't run, you end up hitting a chopper.""
