Brandon Phillips was aching to stay in Cincinnati, and now he will.

The Reds second baseman agreed Tuesday to a contract extension that totals six years and $72.5 million, through the 2017 season. The two-time All-Star said he has grown to love Cincinnati since he arrived via trade from Cleveland in 2006, and the city more than anything kept Phillips from looking elsewhere.

"I cried about this. This is where I wanted to be," Phillips said, baring his emotions Tuesday at a Great American Ball Park press conference. "I talked to my agents and I kept on telling them please, please make it happen.
