If this is to be Brandon Phillips' last year as a Red, he wants to go out as a winner.

"A lot of good players out there have something I don't have," he said. "That's a championship. That's what I want."

Phillips, of course, is going into the final year of his contract. The sides have talked about an extension. Phillips says he hasn't gotten any recent news on the subject.

"My agent hasn't called me," he said. "It still sucks. Right now, I'm trying to stay focused on spring training. I'm trying to get better each year, trying to be Benjamin Button – get better with age."

Phillips has not been involved in negotiations. He has not set a deadline, but he'd rather it not go into the season.

"I leave that to my agent," he said. "During the season, that's the last thing I want on my mind."
