Phillips banters with Cards fans via Twitter

"This time around, Brandon Phillips had something positive to say about St. Louis food.

In fact, the Cincinnati second baseman and target of much Cardinals fan displeasure found a restaurant a step above the Lunchables he bought from a St. Louis store in April.

And while Phillips' choice of Sunday dinner — Oceano Bistro in Clayton — might not be of much importance, the avenue where his food selection announcement becomes memorable is: Twitter.

Phillips, a big personality not afraid to say what's on his mind, is extending that to his online @DatDudeBP Twitter presence, and he's having fun doing it.

He has tweeted 3,400 times since creating an account in January and has built a following that as of Monday's opening pitch reached 78,534 people. Through Twitter, he's known for awarding trivia winners with flights to games or face-to-face meetings. In May, "DatDudeBP" showed up at an under-14 baseball game after seeing a tweet from one of the kids on the team asking him to show up.

Phillips also doesn't mind interacting with a St. Louis fan base that doesn't like him. His well-documented comments about the Cardinals and ensuing bench-clearing brawl last August ensure a hearty round of boos whenever he steps to the plate at Busch Stadium, but also some playful trash talking of his own on Twitter.

"My teammates ask me if I knew where some good places 2 eat at in St. Louis! I said, "Yea, come with me 2 the store 2 get some Lunchables!" Phillips tweeted April 21 when he was last in town.

On Monday, Phillips said he did, in fact, buy the packaged lunches."
