Brandon Phillips hasn't been hitting as much as he would like. Still, he delivered a clutch RBI single that helped the Reds beat the Giants 3-0 in Thursday's series opener.

Phillips' two-out, ninth-inning single gave the Reds their final run and sent Giants fans streaming to the exits.

Phillips was 2-for-5 Thursday as he tries to climb back toward the .300 mark. He entered Friday hitting .226 in June and .286 for the season.

"All I've been doing lately is hitting the ball right at people," Phillips said. "I've been feeling good at the plate but I just haven't had the results. Tonight (Thursday), the ball just found some holes."
