For the second straight game, the Phillies received a top-notch performance from their starting pitcher. This day, however, the Phillies did not let it go to waste.

Ben Revere slapped a RBI single up the middle off Alex Wood — who had been fantastic up that point — in the eighth to plate Domonic Brown, which ended up being the game-winning run in a 1-0 Phillies win Thursday.

With the win, the Phillies (7-8) end their nine-game homestand on a high note and salvage a win in the series against division rival Atlanta (10-5).

A day after Cliff Lee’s complete game (one run allowed), A.J. Burnett logged seven brilliant innings of scoreless baseball, striking out five while only allowing three hits. Burnett induced 13 groundouts, a season high.

And for Burnett, the encouraging outing came one start after suffering a small inguinal hernia, which cut his outing Friday short. Burnett saw a doctor Monday, who told the pitcher surgery on his hernia will be needed but not until after the season. Until then, the 37-year-old Burnett will have to pitch through discomfort.
